I don’t know how many times I’ve stood in front of my closet and complained that I had nothing to wear. Despite my wardrobe overflowing with shoes, tops, dresses, and jeans, I still become weary of repeatedly wearing the same pieces. I am pretty sure I am not the only one who goes through the same thing. Too bad we don’t all have unlimited budgets to buy new clothes and accessories whenever we’re sick of the old stuff. However, if your wardrobe is in desperate need of an update but you don’t have the cash to head to the mall – a clothing swap with friends might be the best alternative.

A clothing swap is a type of occasion wherein participants exchange their valued but no longer used clothing for clothing they will use. Clothing swaps are considered not only a good way to refill one’s wardrobe, but also are considered an act of environmentalism. The notion of swapping is not a new concept; however, many groups and organizations exist that hold clothing swaps, in a variety of sizes, to raise money and clothes for charitable donations

Closet #1: After

HERE ARE REASONS WHY I LOVE SWAPS AND WHY YOU SHOULD TOO

SOMEONES TRASH IS ANOTHER PERSONS TREASURE
Remember the old saying that someone’s trash is another person’s treasure? The same principle applies to a clothing swap. While you might be tired of your cherry red pumps, they might be just what one of your friends have been looking for. All of the items are fair game, so you can trade, barter, and donate clothes while snagging some new stuff to breathe new life into your closet.

SPRING CLEANING YOUR CLOSET
I like to keep my money right where I can see it…hanging in my closet. Yes, just like Carrie Bradshaw we spend soo much money on clothes but we must admit sometimes we REGRET. We have so many clothes just hanging that we don’t even wear and its still too painful to get rid of. We just hope that one day we will wear them or a perfect occasion will present itself. We also paid good money for these items, and parting with clothing that is in perfectly good condition — even if we donate it to a good cause — is challenging. But if you know an item has a chance of finding a new home, it’s much easier to say goodbye and free your shelf. No more clothes taking up space on your shelf.

SAVE SAVE SAVE MONEY!!!
This is probably my favourite reason for swapping clothes I get to have new clothes in my closet without spending a dime!!! And because I am not spending anything I can play around with my style I’ll try on clothes I would never select in a store, because I’m less willing to part with money for something too trendy. Feathers and sequins? Well, OK. Black leather skinny jeans? Sure. When it’s free, I’ll give it a shot, maybe take it home, and if it doesn’t work, bring it back to the next swap. Nothing lost, but perhaps a new style found.

WHAT YOU DONT CLAIM WILL GO TO A LOCAL CHARITY
Once you’ve bagged your items up to bring them to a swap, anything that isn’t grabbed by a friend can be donated to a local non-profit. There is more joy in giving than receiving. Those clothes will put a smile on someone’s face.

Lastly all sizes are welcome and encouraged.

With that being said PEARLSKYE is hosting a  wardrobe swap party and pop up shop  and you are all invited!!! Saturday August 13 from 12-3, 78 Glenara Ave South Upper Hillside Harare $5 at the gate and $3.50 in advance refreshments included.
